The benefits of Memory Cafes for people living with dementia, PTSD and other conditions are well documented which is why we’re especially proud to have been part of the launch of the Haringey Council’s Hildene Court Memory Café, which has been seven years in the making. It was so good to attend the recent official opening and see how positive these new spaces will be for residents and their families. It was heartening to see residents and visitors enjoying the space – sipping drinks, indulging in homemade cakes, painting and listening to live piano music.

Spurred on by a visit and having the seen the passion of Scheme Manager Evelee, Charlie Harris, John King, Steve Cottrell, Bruno and Max Frangiamore installed a handrail which will be used to help residents and visitors take part in gentle exercises, and a mobile counter to display the delicious treats sold at the café.

Beyond contributing to the cafe itself, we also helped transform two rooms into relaxing and therapeutic spaces including installing therapeutic lights, yoga mats and mirrors.

A follow up visit

A second visit from the Purdy team has already taken place! The team, including Stewart Attersall, Kane Morris, and Fay Poddington, enjoyed their vibrant session at this special community space. Paints were flowing, music was in full swing, and conversations were just as vibrant.

Residents and visitors engaged in creative painting sessions, with James Narborough discovering what might be a hidden talent as he enthusiastically joined in! And of course, the tea and delicious cakes didn’t disappoint – they never do!

This Memory Café, launched for residents, the local community, and carers of anyone experiencing memory loss or dementia, provides a vital opportunity for people to connect, share stories, and enjoy meaningful activities together. We’re immensely proud of our continued involvement and support for such an important initiative.

A special acknowledgment goes to Charlie Harris for his generosity in helping to make this café possible through the purchase of key items needed to open its doors. His contribution, along with the dedication of everyone involved, has created a space that brings genuine joy and comfort to all who attend.

We’re delighted to be part of these special moments with the Haringey Council community, and we look forward to many more heart warming afternoons at the Hilldene Memory Café.
