Homeleigh’s Court Site Manager Gillian OTR

Purdy was recently tasked with donating time, materials and expertise to create a children’s playroom for a supported living accommodation unit, Homeleigh Court, Spire Housing, which provides emergency accommodation for people who are waiting to be housed by a council. As it’s such an important place for families on their journey into their own home, we wanted to make sure we went above and beyond to make sure children would be happy and comfortable in their new space.

Working with other supplies on this social value project, we added mood lighting, donated books and games, fitted new blinds, made a reading corner with bean bags, and even personalised the room with children’s artwork. The result has been better than we could ever imagine, with children spending hours playing and laughing and forgetting about their day-to-day worries. It also gives their parents a chance to unwind too.

Homeleigh Court Site Manager Gillian commented: “The previous ‘playroom’ was not fit for purpose at all and it’s amazing how with your help, it has now transformed to being the central hub and described as a ‘lifeline’ to those that use it. Having a place to chill out is enough to keep people positive in the uncertain times they are facing. I love to see the kids being able to be kids, and the adults are happy to join in! These families have had their world as they know it, turned upside down so having somewhere they can sit and draw, paint, play, relax together is enough for them to be able to forget what they are going through for a while.

“Thank you Purdy”
