Training & Development

Purdy Contracts is committed to the training and development of its entire workforce. All staff are trained to a very high standard and have an average of at least 8 days training per year.

Identifying and fulfilling training requirements plays a major part of the company’s commitment to its quality assurance. Purdy Contracts is certified to ISO 9001:2008 and the quality assurance allows us to involve our workforce and to achieve quality and continual improvement by:

  • Learning all they can
  • Following proper procedures at all times
  • Taking pride in their work
  • Making sure they work efficiently
  • Attending any training sessions that are offered
  • Learning from mistakes
  • Helping others to do their best
  • Contributing to continual improvements with their ideas and suggestions


Induction Training

All new employees undergo an induction training programme which includes:

  • Introduction to the company
  • Health & safety in the workplace
  • Policies and procedures
  • Testing
  • Site specific training


Continual Training/Development

The competency of all our staff is assessed and continually monitored.  Where training needs are identified these are provided.

Every engineer also has a personal development plan and we like to promote from within whenever possible. Most of our senior engineers and managers at some point in their past have worked as an engineer. We actively encourage training and progression, which motivates our staff to do a quality job each and every time.

Other training includes the following:

  • Specific manufacturer training (both in-house at Purdy and at manufacturers training facilities)
  • Health and Safety training (through ‘toolbox’ talks)
  • Industry standard training (ACS qualification renewed on a 5-year cycle)
  • Management training (through HRC)


Purdy has a relationship with various local Colleges where currently 30 apprentices are training.  We also utilise these training centres for additional or new training to meet the needs of new statutory regulations. An example is the introduction of the 17th edition electrical standards and the ongoing accreditation of our gas engineers.

Purdy maintains a training matrix for all of our engineers that captures all their relevant training and competencies. This is held centrally on a database and is updated regularly to ensure all training, including toolbox talks, details are held against each individual.

Purdy are committed to training all staff and invest almost £30,000 per annum on training alone.
