From the 13th of February 2024, Reece Beckles will be taking to the tools to learn the practical side of contract delivery for Purdy, as he transitions from Contracts Administrator to Gas Apprentice. Reece has been a key part of the Purdy Contracts team for eighteen months and in his recent appraisal with his boss and mentor Charlie Harris (Contracts Manager), expressed an interest in expanding his skill set so he could understand the practical side of the work we do. As well as gaining key skills and becoming a qualified engineer, Reece is focused on the bigger picture:
“I really enjoy my job as Contracts Administrator at Purdy and the team are fantastic at training and helping you understand the business, but there is only so much you can learn from reading. I really want to be able to do the work that our engineers do on site. My boss and mentor Charlie worked his way up to Contracts Manager via an apprenticeship and has a deep understanding of delivery and is a great team leader because of it. He’s inspired me to do take the same path.
“Purdy has been extremely supportive of the transfer, encouraging me to achieve my goals.”
“I am enrolled at CK Assessments as part of Hertford Regional College on a specialist plumbing course that lasts for 1 year. After that, I will start the Gas course, which is 18 months. Alongside college, I will be working 3 days a week onsite, learning from our engineers. I am very excited and grateful to have the opportunity to take this next step in my career.”
Charlie Harris adds: “When Reece expressed his desire to understand more about the engineers’ work and learn the skills for himself, I saw a huge opportunity for both Reece and the wider team. Reece has been an integral member of the team since he joined the business, always willing to learn and do his absolute best. He is a perfectionist, so I have no doubt that this will carry through into his new role. He will also take with him an understanding of how the administrative side of the business works and be able to work with the engineers on site to help them understand the pressures faced by office-based personnel from, helping both to work together more effectively to further improve the team ethos we strive for.
“This is the first time anyone has made this transition, but it is something I fully support and am delighted that the business and wider Kinovo Group agree and have enabled Reece’s transfer.”
