Harvey Pipe, a Business Admin Apprentice in the Dunhams team, shares his apprenticeship story.
“Hi, I’m Harvey and I’m 18. I am currently working towards obtaining NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration.
“Before I started the apprenticeship, I was working at McDonalds and helping my parents with their cleaning business, whilst attending college full time. But, I wasn’t enjoying the course, I wanted to find something that combined both work and learning.
“The structure of the apprenticeship suits me much better. I now attend college 1 day a week and work in the Dunhams’ office 4 days a week. I work with a great team of people who are really supportive of my learning, especially when I have a specific assignment to complete. They always let me pick at their knowledge! I am lucky enough to consider the whole team at Dunhams as my mentors on various levels.
What does your typical day look like as a Business Admin apprentice?
“I always come in and log on to my computer to check what emails have come in overnight and prioritise the ones that need to be actioned straight away. I then sign into our phone system where I am on hand to deal with any phone calls, queries, and emergencies.
“I am also responsible for updating clients’ tracker reports so everyone knows what is happening.”
What attracted you to working at Dunhams?
“I like the opportunities that could be available to me as part of the Kinovo group.”
What’s the best thing about doing an apprenticeship at Dunhams?
“It’s the people I work with, colleagues and the clients and residents that I get to speak to daily.”
What are your aspirations for the future?
“In the next year, I will be finishing my apprenticeship and becoming an administrator. From there, I would like to explore finance and see what positions or possibilities are available to me within group.”
Would you recommend an apprenticeship?
“I 100% recommend an apprenticeship! I feel it has made me mature as a person and has given me opportunities to gain a qualification whilst working. In my case, my apprenticeship has allowed me to make friends for life with people I would never have had the opportunity to meet otherwise.”
